    The English culture in África

The English spread to various international countries in the world and África is one of them.
The English language began to develop in South Africa; since the country has adopted English as official language. When the British colonization in Cape Town in 1822, English was instituted as official language, so that the population began to speak that language instead of African.

    Dialects and languages in extinction.

Dialects and languages die every day, especially when we live in a world linked by computers and mass media. Nowadays the universal language of popular culture and advertising (English) is killing hundreds of dialects. Linguists estimate that every two weeks another language dies, because as the mass tourism increases, the need of the home land people to survive, leads to learning English so they can talk to the tourists to convince them to buy their products, which often leads to forgetting the primary dialect and consequently leads to his death, as linguists strive to make them survive.    There are below some of the smaller languages of the world.

Guguyimidjir - Originated in the region of Hopevale, Queensland. It is also the name of the people that speak it. It has between 200-300 speakers.

Minderico- Was originate in the region of Minde,Portugal (wasn’t possible to find the number of speakers). This dialect allows members of the community (Mirenses) to talk to each other without making known the meaning of that communication to others.

Língua Nǀu- Was created by the Community of the Nǁnǂe in South Africa and it has only 10 speakers, it’s a dialect closer to the edge.

    Curiositys:
Here are some of the words and their meanings in Minderico:

    Zé Pedro- Bigode
    Rodilha- Sogra
    Renhomnhom- Gaita de foles
    Pirota- Motorizada
Senhor António- Marido atraiçoado pela mulher; corno

    The importance of English

To me know how to speak  English is very important, because this way there is no need to be constantly translating songs, movies, books ,etc, because everybody speaks English.
It also makes the exchange of cultures much easier, because although we do not talk to foreigners in to their language (because it is impossible to speak every languages), we can speak with them in English, and it also makes easier to an tourist to get indications or information’s, because if the English weren’t so widespread all the pamphlets and sheets of monuments would be in the mother tongue language of the land and the tourists would have trouble understanding.

In my opinion it would be impossible to exist as a global society as we have today without the English because it makes everything easier and more accessible, because English is one of factors that connects the different continents in a single world.

    Portuguese in the world

The Lusophone world (who speaks Portuguese) is currently valued between 500 and 550 million people. Portuguese is the eighth most spoken language on the planet and the third in the western Europe, after English and Castilian.
Portuguese is speaked on four continents:
    América -192 millions people
    Ásia -330 millions people
    África- 16 millions people
    Europe- 12 millions people

Portuguese is an official language of the European Union (formerly EEC) since 1986, when Portugal was admitted to the institution. Because of agreements with the Mercosur (Southern Common Market), to which Brazil belongs, Portuguese is taught as a foreign language in other countries that participate in it.
In 1996, they created the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP), linking the Portuguese-speaking countries in order to increase cooperation and cultural exchanges between member countries and to standardize and disseminate the Portuguese language.

Portuguese is increasing all over the world, more and more people get interested in it and that makes me believe that some day Portuguese will be one of the three most spoken languages.

    English Culture

When we think of the great country of the USA, is to remember what they are due to British culture. The language, customs and traditions, come all of the English colonists who settled, lived and founded the 13 major colonies. For example the day of Thanksgiving, when we think of it reminded us once the USA, but were English settlers, who died from hunger, made an alliance with the natives, and made a feast to celebrate the harvest with the natives.

    History of english

English is caused by the junction of several dialects of different peoples, as the Jutes, Saxons, Angles and other Germanic and Celtic tribes, who invaded England after the falloff the Roman Empire. The Normans who conquered England add the French to the English language, thus forming the medieval English. The English developed, until, thanks to the mighty British Empire the English language has spread around the world.
